Music

Euroa Secondary College has a long tradition of excellence in its Instrumental Music Program. In the past, many of our Year 7 students have become involved in the program and found that participation enhances both their academic and social development. Throughout the history of Euroa Secondary College, many of the student leaders and high academic achievers have been a part of the music program, including one of the current and many of the past School Captains.

School Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble and Rock Band Program

At Euroa Secondary College we offer a comprehensive performance-based musicprogram: the Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble program and the Rock Band program. This gives the students the opportunity to be involved in a variety of music activities that include:

– Junior Band

 – Intermediate Band

– MusicMakers (Senior Concert Band)

– Percussion Ensemble
– Pzazz (Stage Band)
– VCE Band
-Several rock bands

It is very important to a student’s musical education that they participate in a band or group. This gives students the opportunity to reinforce the skills that they learn in their lessons. Music is not just an intellectual discipline, it is a language best learned in a team.

Much of the instrumental learning happens in the band situation where the students hear the music as a whole instead of just an individual part. It is the one time of the week when the students playing instruments get together and put all the parts of the musical jigsaw together. Learning an instrument in isolation does not give students an incentive to continue learning, nor a full picture of what it is to be a performer. Being an active member of an ensemble builds self-confidence and self-esteem and provides a sense of pride and accomplishment. It also assists students to develop their musical awareness and social skills. Music is a team sport!

Our Band program provides students with the opportunity to develop musicianship in a motivational and co-operative team atmosphere. Included in the current program are group lessons for flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, drums, guitar and bass guitar.

All of the ensembles and bands have the opportunity to participate in concerts and the Regional Music camp during the year, while MusicMakers also participates in competitions, workshops and a music tour.
