The study of Mathematics is compulsory for all Year 7 to 10 students. Students develop their fluency, understanding, problem-solving and reasoning skills in the areas of Number & Algebra, Statistics & Probability and Measurement & Geometry. Links to our programs for Years 7-10 Mathematics can be found below.
Each year in February, all junior Mathematics students complete On Demand Adaptive Testing in Numeracy. Based on these results, each student then receives an individualised program of questions to practise on the number fluency website, IXL (https://au.ixl.com/signin/euroa). This program should be glued into student workbooks. At the beginning of each Maths lesson, students spend 10 minutes practising on this program. In addition, students are expected to spend at least 30 minutes per week practising at home.
Each semester, junior Mathematics students complete a project investigating practical applications of Mathematics. This provides students with a valuable opportunity to work in groups and apply what they have learnt in the classroom to a real-world situation.
Each year students have the opportunity to sit the Australian Mathematics Competition. This is an external competition that enables students to apply their mathematical knowledge to a variety of different problems.
